CHILDREN’S MINISTRY MISSION The mission of Children’s Ministry at CUMC is to help children connect their lives to God through Jesus Christ and grow in Christian faith in a safe and nurturing environment by:
We want children to love Sunday school, and regular attendance is a first step in learning the basics of our faith. Leaders in our programs are dedicated volunteers who have answered the call to teach the message of God’s love to the children. But they cannot do the task alone. Parents play a vital role in the religious education of their children. We encourage parents to get involved in our Children’s programs—as teachers, as helpers, and by sharing their special talents, as well as time. NURSERY AND TODDLER ROOMS There is both a toddler/2-3 year old room and a nursery available for infants (2 months of age) through children up to age 3. These rooms are located in the main church hallway in Room #101 & #102, respectively. Our nursery and toddler room are supervised by a coordinator and have many loving, trained volunteer helpers. In keeping with the CUMC Mission to “vitally connect people to people, and people to God,” our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our youngest CUMC worshippers where their spiritual education is as important as their developmental growth.
LIVE B.I.G. SUNDAY SCHOOL AT 9AM & 11:15AM Curriculum Children 3 years old (as of 9/1/09) through the 6th grade are taught using Cokesbury’s Live B.I.G. (Belief In God) curriculum. Live B.I.G. is all about learning to live your Belief In God. The curriculum is divided into monthly units. Each monthly unit focuses on a bible verse and a weekly bible story. Each weekly bible story and lesson has numerous “hands-on” activities to reinforce the lesson. These activities include art, music, drama, cooking, and more. The curriculum is fun and exciting for your children, and highly substantive at the same time. Your kids will love it! Live B.I.G. Room Locations Children are grouped by age for our Live B.I.G. programs. Children ages 3-4 years check directly into Room #203 at the beginning of the Sunday school hour. Please note that children must be 3 years old by September 1st and fully potty trained. If your child does not meet these criteria, he/she is welcome in the Toddler/2-3 Year Old Room. Kindergarten-1st graders are grouped together, as are 2nd-3rd graders and 4th-6th graders. These kids first check into Room #207 at the beginning of each Sunday school hour for a Children’s Church service, lasting approximately 15 minutes. After Children’s Church, the classes are dismissed to their respective classrooms. The kindergarten -1st grade class is in Room #204. The 2nd-3rd grade class is in Room #202. And the 4th-6th grade class in is “Lounge 456” located in Room #206. Children may be picked up in their classrooms at the end of the Sunday school hour. ANGELS IN TRAINING at 10AM Every Sunday at 10am, children ages 4 years through the 6th grade experience true discipleship in this mission-based program located in Room #205. Kids work on service and mission projects within our church, surrounding community, and throughout the world. This is a wonderful outreach program to train our kids to become servants of Jesus Christ and to share His love. CHILDREN and WORSHIP We welcome children in our worship services. Children need to experience worship with us so that they learn how to become part of the community of faith. For children who attend worship in the sanctuary with their parents instead of going to Sunday school and are not quite old enough to follow along, special “quiet bags” and books are available in the Narthex. Ask an usher for a bag. CONTACT US ANYTIME! If you have any questions or concerns regarding our Children’s Ministry Programs, do not hesitate to contact us.
