Baptism

Parents and churches are called to partner in helping children develop spiritually and grow into faithful adults.
Most importantly, the congregation provides a nurturing community of love and support for both parents and children. In our Baptismal liturgy, the congregation pledges to be involved in the life of the child being baptized and his or her family. They pledge to model Christian faith through the example of their lives and surround the family with love and support:

Sacrament of Holy Baptism

Baptism is an outward and visible sign of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, though which grace we become partakers of his righteousness and heirs of life eternal. Those receiving the Sacrament are thereby marked as Christian disciples, and initiated into the fellowship of Christ’s holy Church. This Sacrament blesses us with the grace to become faithful disciples. This divine gift is to be received joyfully and sincerely.

Children and infants can be baptized as long as their parents are ready with passion and integrity to fulfill the vows they will take for their child. The church will stand with them to share in the work and privilege of raising them in faith.

Adult baptism is given to those who have not been baptized and desire to receive this gift of baptism as they serve the Lord.

If you are interested in Baptism for you or your children, the following are provided to assist you. First contact the church office (248-625-1611) and set up a time to meet with one of the pastors. At that meeting you will have the chance to talk more about Baptism, learn about the specifics of the service and schedule at which service the baptim will occur. Because the congregation takes a vow of commitment to be Baptized and their families it is necessary to celebrate the sacrament in worship. As much as possible we try to schedule the Baptisms for the third Sunday of each month.

Steps to the Sacrament of Holy Baptism for Infants and Children

1.Attend worship on a regular basis.
2.Become active in the Church and have children in Sunday School.
3.Become a member of the Church. (see church office for membership class)
4.Meet with one of the pastors to schedule the Baptism.

Steps 1,2, and 3 will be waived if a person is an active member of a church in another community and wishes to return to their home church to have the baptism at CUMC rather than the church in which they a have active memberships.
